This is not a bar humbug Christmas post, on the contrary I am fully up for getting into the Christmas spirit! It's just this year I'm just not in the mood for the over-the-top Christmas jumper. Now if that's still your thing then perhaps this is not going to be your kinda of post, and hey that's ok! This year I love sparkle, I like stars and I'm loving low key...

Lizzi Richardson

The one I have bought from Oasis is sold out online, but I'm sure if you head in store they may still have them. It was priced at £40, I paid £30 on Black Friday so who knows you might still be able to get it at that lower price too.

This lovely soft grey jumper is a fitted style, it's a mix of silver and gold stars which I was keen on, because my jewellery tends to be a mix of both - so this helps me with not having to match up my metal tones.

I found this great alternative star jumper on the Oasis site, I absolutely love this with the leather skirt, a real rock chick vibe... but still keeps you in the spirit of celebrating.

Foil Star Sweater

I am loving the faux leather embellishment on this jumper, a great alternative to sparkle and tone-on-tone can look very sophisticated. With the popularity of leather trousers and skirts at this time of year this is one that will look great over Christmas but will easily take you up to Spring - a great investment at £45.

Black Faux Leather Embellished Jumper

If you bought into the corduroy trend with either pink, burgundy, green or purple, I think this blush pink jumper from NEXT is the perfect way to "Christmas" it up! As the snowflakes are on the sleeves as well, this is perfect for under the pinafore dress, dungarees, with a mini or simply teamed with wide-leg trousers - versatile number and a great price at £28.

Blush Sequin Snowflake Sweater

This next jumper is a classic Fair isle knit, it oozes style and chic and the black beaded embellishments elevates this simple classic. Perfect for this winter, allowing you to capture the spirit of Christmas but then taking it beyond into the New Year months. This classic is not a trend, so a great investment to your winter wardrobe, this year and future years.

Vera Fair isle embellished jumper

Hush Homewear is known for their star design jumpers and if that's what you are looking for then I highly recommend you take a look. If stars are not your thing, then I've picked out this number - this is perfect for an evening event where you've been 'told' come wearing a Christmas jumper and if you are in any doubt just how Christmassy the other guests will be and you want to stay chic, I think this is ideal.

Aura Jumper

Take a black fluffy yarn... knit a jumper... add some pearls and what do you get? I think quite a glam look. This number from Sosander is lovely. Their clothing generally comes up big, I think you need to have this fitted especially of you have a defined waistline, so perhaps consider sizing down.

Black Pearl & Sparkle Embellished Jumper

The Christmas candy cane jumper on Topshop online is trending at the moment - It's so utterly simply but gives that nod to Christmas and I love the red detailing on the hem and cuffs too. A fab price at £22.

Christmas Candy Cane Jumper

I was a little hesitant to show this one, as it's in the sale and there are only a few sizes left, but I love it and it gives the nod to the cape trend that's quite popular this winter. This design is best for those that have a defined waist and who are not too heavy on the chest.

I'm going to kick start this blogpost with a caveat regarding pricing! I am writing this post on Black Friday weekend, so I cannot guarantee that the prices here will be the same if you head to the website (I hope you still manage to get any sale price).

The Teddy Coat is here for a second season, I am not surprised as this trendy number didn't really start until the new year of 2018, so there wasn't much of winter left when people started buying. Thankfully the high street got it right and continued with it, so that people could get value out of their purchases.

I absolutely love the one I bought here, a very lucky find last weekend whilst I was shopping - It's a Black Friday purchase and I got 60% off the price - I am pleased because it means I don't have to feel tied to this 'trend' come next year. It's not online I'm afraid so your only chance is to head into House of Fraser, it's the Linea collection - it should have been £130 and I paid £52!

The teddy coat is meant to be worn oversized and the shape naturally lends itself to that, I am not going to sugar-coat this next point, it's not an ideal coat for either hour-glass (like me) or for pear shape - so avoid wearing it too oversized and perhaps go down a size to get a better fit.

There are various spectrums of quality for this type of fabric and sadly those that are perhaps not up to scratch are still very pricey, so be on your guard and really check that you are happy spending on the standard you find. I am intentionally not showing any cheap store versions - I just do not feel they are worth you spending your money on.

Teddy coats come in lots of colours, the most popular this season are the browns, perfect for those with warm skin tones. There are also some lovely blue and red ones that can work with cool skin tones too.

I've not seen this one in store, I was actually looking for the bright mustard yellow one that I have been trying on for weeks!!! I downsized to a size 6, that's just how big it was coming up on me.

The yellow one is not online, but I found this, and I really like it.

arthaus - New York Ride

A sponsored post by arthaus for gifting this Christmas

Ever thought about buying art as a Christmas gift? Perhaps not your first consideration but one I believe could win you quite a few browny points from the recipient - especially if you have honed in on a passion of theirs.

With art specific online stores, like arthaus, who offer unique and exciting prints it gives you the chance to really find something very special. Made easy with an attractive website for effortless time spent browsing in the comfort of your home, with your feet up and having a cuppa (or a cheeky glass of bubbly), knowing that within a few clicks and a few days, it will be delivered directly to you.

The key is in the 'finding' that something special - people typically start to try and browse EVERYTHING on a website but all this will do is send you spiralling into a world of "I don't know" and so with this in mind, try the following steps which should tailor your search to get to something just right without too much stress:

Step one - really think about the person you are buying for, write a list of things you know about them, their hobbies, their music, their favourite colours.

Step two - head to arthaus and start to key in (one at a time) the associated words and just see what comes up, e.g. music, film, New York etc

Step three - if something appears that you feel relates to the person you are selecting for, write the name of the print down on a piece of paper, and move on to a new word search

Step four - you want to get it down to about four or five pieces of art

Step five - if someone you know, knows the person you are buying for - then it's at this stage you could show them the ones you have picked yourself, and just listen to what they have to say

Step six - whether you do get a second opinion or not, keep reviewing the ones you have selected and within a short space of time you will reject ones based on thoughts that come into your head OR you will naturally be drawn to the one you think is best.

Here are a few that I've picked which I believe would be popular choices....

Big fans of OASIS, just like me! This is a modern style and they have similar designs for Prince, Queen, Elvis and more.

And to finish off, I'm going to talk you through why I selected New York Ride for myself; New York is where I honeymooned with hubby and we had the best time. I absolutely love the iconic yellow taxis and whilst this may not be an actual taxi, the yellow makes you think it is. With my love of art, taking photos and all that, this chick could have been me... I just love it. I went with size 50cm x 50cm framed in white.

New York Ride

  • Be thoughtful - choose it because the topic has a connection with them, don't buy it because you love it
  • Be considerate of their space - Art doesn't have to the biggest picture you can afford - sometimes it's the small pictures we put up in our homes we admire the most
  • Buy it in the frame - it's a bit like giving a child a toy that needs batteries, if they can't do something with it straightaway it will go into a cupboard!
  • Don't tell them where to hang it - you may have had a particularly space in mind, but I for one are forever moving pictures around - it's a really great way to freshen up a room
  • The art needs to be obvious - if you need to explain why you chose it, then it's not the right design to be giving, they should instantly know why

  • Supporting artists making their passion of art
  • Handcrafted by specialist art framers using only high quality wood
  • Browse and shop in the comfort of your home
  • Deliver to your home and ready to be hung (or ready for you to wrap!)
  • Art can really change a room - making it warmer, engaging and a conversation starter for first time guests

To start browsing and possibly opt for gifting yourself a bit of art too (I wouldn't blame you) then head over to arthaus - simply click here.

Well party season has arrived and there is no better season to get your glam on! Sequins, sparkles, glitter it's all going on in the shops and you can go as subtle or as dramatic as you dare!

So here's me last Saturday night as I headied out with hubby and friends for the evening - everything is quite typical of me... apart from my new sequin top - it's a subtle nod to acknowledge that it's time to step it up... for dare I say.... Christmas.

If you are on Instagram then over the next few weeks use the hashtag #getyoursparkeon when you are wearing your sequins and sparkle outfits, and I'll repost my favourites on my Instastories.

I shopped for this top as part of my recent shopping trip to Rushden Lakes, all the tops you see where in store at the time. And for once it was nice to have some help in the changing room!

The brief for this blog was it had to be top that you can easily wear with jeans or trousers just to add a little sparkle on a night out. Apart from one top below, all of them have sequins, sadly New Look didn't have any that we felt were nice enough to show on the blog, however the top we selected was a lovely colour and would add some sparkle to a night out.

I'm also particularly loving the purple sequins, I felt this was a lovely alternative to just gold or silver, and the purple one from River Island is still a potential on my hit list! You will probably also notice that the H&M and the NEXT look exactly the same (believe me I had to do a double take with the photos for this post) but they are not; I purchased the NEXT as it was a much better weight of garment, and the quality was unbelievable for the price of £20! Yes £20 - and it's an item that won't date, you can wear party season to party season.

I also spotted the silver River Island sequin top on the catwalk at Stylist Live last week, I think this looks much better tucked in, as you will see it was quite long in length - and I think it looks pretty cool with velvet trousers - a real glam vibe. Love it!

They say black, but it was multi-colour with a strong hint of purple. I think the shorter sleeve makes this more versatile with jackets to wear it with. Love this a lot, you could easily size down for a more fitted look.

New Look

Sorry ladies, I couldn't find it on the website, so if you love it, you'll have to head in store. There is a knot tie at the front, making this a short top to wear, either for those of you who are happy to show off your midriff or you'll need a high-waist pair of jeans or trousers on.

And the one I bought....

My version is black/silver, they also do it in blue, blush and teal. I sized down one size and it's still a loose fit.

I think by now you can kind of guess I love to shop, and it upsets me to hear at times when people say they can't stand it, they prefer to shop online.

Shopping online, let's be honest, is not much fun - you've got to guess your size, you have to pay postage and if you want to skip that you have to buy more and then you hate yourself at the end of the month when the credit card bill lands. It's such an easy way to get carried away as you are not physically carrying bags and having that stop button in your head of "I think I've spent enough"

Okay I get the pros... you can do it in your pjs (I get that) you can do it very late at night (yes I've had my panic buys too!) - but for the love of a sociable life, you need to head out of the front door!

Shopping can be fun, you just need to prepare correctly, and have the attitude to be calm, relaxed and go with the flow. Any shopping trip with a 'must have' or 'last minute panic because I left it to the last minute' is never going to be a good shopping trip.

Lizzi Richardson

Here's hoping you'll give some thought to my shopping tips before you head out for your next trip. My wish for you is to have a fun, enjoyable, sociable day and of course success in only buying the items you actually need.

And one thing I would like you to promise me - is that if you get the items home and it's not right - you don't hide them at the back of the wardrobe, you return and get a refund within the timescales of T&C's of that retailer, normally 28 days, but check and especially check the sale items BEFORE you purchase.

Lizzi Richardson

We all have different friends for different aspects of our lives, and for a fun and enjoyable trip these are the qualities you are looking for in your shopping buddy. And maybe you have different friends for different types of shopping, for example if you have a friend who loves shoes or has previously worked in a shoe shop this would be good for shoe shopping - it's a little like The Apprentice, select wisely and use their skills!

For me a great shopping buddy is those that like to start with coffee and chat, who wear practical shoes as I shop all day. They are happy to be in changing room for a while, going back and forth and likewise for them too. Plus they must be happy to go back to stores we've already been to.

Lizzi Richardson

If you shop on your own for a specific need, then yes 2-3 hours is probably the time you need to allow. But going with a friend I highly recommend that you give yourselves plenty of time. So block the whole day, leave your phone in your handbag (there's always plenty of refreshment breaks to have a look!) and take you time to shop at leisure.

There are so many great shopping centres and cities that give you the opportunity to make a day of it, so use it as a way to get some'Me Time' that we all crave.

Some of my favourite places to shop are Westfield Shepherd's Bush, Westgate Oxford, Eden Centre in High Wycombe, CMK in Milton Keynes along with St Albans, Cheltenham and Nottingham cities and not forgetting good old London Town.

I've recently come across a new shopping 'centre' it's outdoors in Northamptonshire and it's called Rushden Lakes - and it's this location that I've chosen to create this post from.

Lizzi Richardson

Don't rush lunch... get Mediterranean with your style and enjoy your lunch at leisure. Most places offer consumers a variety of different cuisines and eateries within close location to each other. Take this time to reflect on what you've seen, what you want to head back for and what is still on your list to find.

If all the stores only offered black clothes that's all you will be able to buy. I highly recommend that you take the time to travel to bigger locations to get more choice. Ideally a location that has at least one department store.

I would always recommend to start in a department store as they have key brands of various price-points and you can quickly gauge who might have what you need or you get a feel for the cost you may need to spend. If they don't have exactly what you want, but you've worked out which stores may have, then head to them next.

Jigsaw at Rushden Lakes

Don't buy everything as soon as you see it. This is why you need time and I generally don't buy anything much before lunch. I want the opportunity to reflect, to go see more and to chat it through over lunch or coffee and then firmly decide what I am heading back for.

Most stores will hold an item for you for about 2 hours, I use this service a lot - it keeps you calm about no one else grabbing that one size that fitted you perfectly. And don't always assume you can get it online, I've missed out on some great items thinking I can do that. Stores are getting savvy - they have some items in store only and some items that are exclusive online.

Rushden Lakes

I do judge and form opinions about places, this will impact where I shop in the future. And so should you, this will form the basis of where you will (in time) love to shop. Your list may not be the same as mine, but I'm sure we have a few in common:

  • Easy and cheap parking - I frequently go to Westfield Shepherd's Bush because I am a Smart Parking customer and it's £8 all day and I don't have to faff with tickets either. I'm very keen on Park & Ride and I'm happy taking a bus ride into a city. I was pretty impressed with Rushden Lakes as it's FREE for up to 5 hours
  • Good toilet facilities - I hate public toilets and I will judge a shopping centre or city on this type of amenity. Ladies like them clean, modern and stylish with plenty of room and mirrors to get themselves sorted
  • A great selection of cafes and restaurants - when I take a break, I want it to be relaxing, I like to people watch (don't we all), I need free WIFI that works and I like choice of either sitting inside or outside
  • Areas that have seating where you are not in the walkway of a shopping centre or on the pavements in the cities  - we all need five minutes in the day to gather our thoughts and if you've just had a coffee break you might not be ready for another one.

Lizzi Richardson

With the big shopping season ahead for Christmas, I would like it to be as fun and enjoyable for you. If you've loved it by using my shopping tips, then you might just brave it again for the January sales!
