Oasis Pink Knit

Let's all ignore the fact that it's going to snow this week, since when has that stopped us looking lovely! The last couple of days have been glorious sunshine and despite the very cold weather, it is time to brighten up your knitwear! Spring is the season for colour, for fresh designs and a little less drab. So if you need a little cheering up, start with your knitwear - you need it at the moment to keep you warm - just add some colour.

Now before I go into any great detail, I have a little message to my readers who know me in person, everything in this post (or any others) even if I have purchased it for myself to wear - you have the green light to buy it for yourself. I would be absolutely thrilled if you did buy something I own, and by all means show me how YOU style it, tag me into your posts and feel free to use the hashtag #lovedbylizzi

Now on to this beautiful knit from Oasis - I have been drawn to this top every time I see it, and yet pink is not really my colour, so I've decided to break the rules, and I'm wearing it, I've teamed it with some lighter blue jeans and I feel like Spring has arrived.

It's a clinging knit, so I've sized up one size which means the seam is sitting just slightly off my shoulders, but I feel the bigger size has given me overall a smoother finish. And as I plan to mainly wear this at the weekend, this gives quite a relaxed vibe to my look.

Colourblock Knit

Now with selecting other options, I normally save the best till last - not today, after this gorgeous pink colourblock knit, there were two more in the running!

The first was a new brand really for me AND/OR in John Lewis, my local store have just reallocated the shop floor space and this brand now is in a prominent position, so I couldn't help but peruse, and came across this little number. I loved it, I just don't know if it loves me... so I plan to try it on again on my next shopping trip and see how I feel next time, so potentially this is still on my hit list!

The neckline was very comfortable, the new modern sleeve shape was just right, after trying a few of these on now the heavier cuff makes it sit better (you'll see later in my post it's one of the negative points about the H&M jumper). This is a size 12, which would be about right, but next time I plan to try the 10, as an hourglass it's got too much going on around the waist so I need to minimise this - if you have a straight body, then I would suggest staying true to your size.

Kate Cutabout Rib Jumper, Deep Blue

AND OR Kate Cutabout Deep Blue

I LOVED this one! Sadly I can't wear this, the two-tone frilly detail is not ideal for the larger bust, that aside the fit was true to size, a lovely soft knit that felt lovely against the skin. Gorgeous cable detailing and I really like the frilly cuffs, not too over-the-top but enough to give it some attention. It's an easy weekend knit that has a romantic style to it, and I feel teamed with some lovely cream wide-leg trousers this would be a very modern office look - it's a 10/10 from me.

Now the next two are Mint Velvet, they had quite selection to choose from, and these were my favourite two. Both really great quality, really good fit and both were true to size.

This next one, the neckline was perfect; don't forget we can still have very cold days in Spring and keeping the neck warm I feel you can then get away with a lighter jacket or coat and forget the scarf, which gives you a less wintery look on what could be a very crisp fresh day.

I had to go yellow at some point in this post! And this one is it - Miss Selfridge knit with button detail. I had to size up one size to get a good fit, but overall I think this is good value for money at £35. It also comes in a black with white stripe detailing.

And I'm finishing up with H&M, this brand always has bright colour knitwear going on, so if you don't know where to start, start in this store. You can get a feel for what colours suit you, they tend to have a lot of choice and one thing is for sure, they will have the latest modern styles.

This bell-sleeve blue jumper is VERY oversized and I found the cuffs were not strong enough to hold the shape, well not as good once I compared it to AND/OR above.  It's a great price though at £34.99 if you want to buy-in to this trend. It's a gorgeous blue, I couldn't find it online, so you will have to head in store. But I found the next best alternative and it's the same price, I think it's slightly shorter in the body and it's more a blue-blue rather than a teal

Product Review: The Silky Roll Neck

Silky Roll Neck

During this winter I have loved wearing this Silky Roll Neck from Kettlewell Colours;
I first wrote about this gorgeous silky roll neck last September where I styled it under one of my summer Zara dresses - back then there were 25 colours in the collection - now there are 36 to choose from!

This week I got super excited to see that celebrity star Fearne Cotton was styled wearing it for the Telegraph's Stella Magazine, doesn't she look fabulous! - This inspired me to wear it this week and so the above photo is what I wore to work this Tuesday. I teamed it with my red Zara jacket and my new fabulous tote bag from Topshop.

Why do I love it so much, well because...

  • The silky finish is super soft, and as it fits like a second skin, it feels lovely to wear
  • It has a long length to the body - this is great to be able to create a rouching effect to hide any areas you don't want to put focus on or if you wear it under a dress or skirt the longer length helps to give a smooth line
  • I also feel that the silky finish looks far nicer than a cotton roll neck - it can really enhance the overall look you want to create
  • I love the versatility of it - you can wear it as a top or as an under-garment
  • It's so easy to wash - I use a 30 degrees cycle and I've found if you hang it on a hanger to dry, no ironing required (bonus)
  • Whilst wearing it throughout the day, I've noticed it keeps it's shape really well, I have a habit of scrunching sleeves up and down throughout the day, which can make them quite messy on some tops and this just doesn't do that!
  • I'm typically a size 12 in Next or M&S for tops and I'm wearing a size Medium, if in any doubt I would size down as you do not want this baggy.

The Silky Roll Neck from Kettlewell Colours is priced at £39 - and I've picked my favourite colours from each of the colour seasons.

My favourite for Winters - White

My favourite for Autumns - Aubergine

My favourite for Summers - Dove Grey

My favourite for Springs - Coral

And if you want to copy Fearne Cotton, and why not, she looks fabulous - then opt for the Deep Claret to team with a pink floral dress - Absolutely gorgeous!!

Highstreet Trench Coats for under £80

Trench coats continue to offer so much choice and variety, this lighter-weight long coat is still one of the best go-to options for Spring. And with it you can play with colour, with length and it's a fabulous item for styling up or dressing down.

Trench Coat H&M

You can choose to stay classic or you can opt for some really trendy pieces - here are a couple of tips to consider before investing in yours:
  • It used to be a coat that typically we would suggest to belt-it at all times - that's probably the best way to wear it professionally if you're buying it for work, but if you want the versatility of wearing it casual with trainers or loafers, then it needs to look good open
  • For either fit, it needs to fit well on the shoulders, if it's too big this style of coat can add a lot of weight to your overall look, and no one wants that!
  • If you are hour-glass or pear shape, it needs to be belted most of the time to define your body shape, so it's important you like how the belt fits and the style of it
  • If you are wearing it open, then you can tie the belt behind you for that casual style and then it minimises the hassle of the belt just dangling and getting in your way
  • When selecting a colour and you can have a lot of fun with colour - just make sure that it works with items you already own; you want it to compliment what you have, not force you to have to buy new items to be able to wear it
  • Take length into consideration - we are not all the same height or size, so really have a good look at where it finishes on the leg or thigh - 'Is that the most flattering length for you?' Be honest with yourself, because choosing right, first time, gives you more money to spend on other clothes
  • If you are spending under £80, it's highly unlikely it will be shower proof, if you need it to be then you need to check the labelling

First up is the coat that's currently in store at H&M - I love the longer length and it comes up very big, I had to downsize at least one size to get it right on the shoulder. I love the colour of this green, it looks very modern and fresh for the new season.

Also available in a dark blue

Now I found this gorgeous pink-checked coat in River Island, I did Instagram it on the day because it was reduced down to £50 from £89 - not surprisingly it has sold out. I'm still showing it to you for style inspiration, because a large check like this is very much on trend.

Trench Coat River Island Pink

I have found you an alternative checked option, this is from Topshop and I think looks glam - You will turn heads in the office walking in wearing this one!

Belted Checked Coat

I'm loving this bright yellow option from River Island, if you opt for the 'column-of-colour' underneath, this is where you wear head to toe one colour including your boots/shoes (it's a very good slimming effect) you could do this with black, navy or another colour you'd like - this would make this mustard yellow coat the statement piece

River Island
Mustard yellow belted duster trench coat

My last few posts I've featured striped trousers, and a trench coat over them with high-heeled pointed shoes, looks just fabulous!!! I'm loving this option from Miss Selfridge.

Miss Selfridge
Green Double-Breasted Trench Coat

This next one from Zara is very different, and if you invest in this piece it's not a classic and so I guarantee that whilst you may love it today (and I certainly do), I don't think you'll be so keen in 12 months - so get as much wear from this, this season.

Contrasting long faux suede jacket

Now if you want classic, long-lasting quality, a choice of colours, and most importantly you want it to be showerproof, then your best bet is this one from M&S - it comes in red, yellow, classic pebble, a variety of blues plus more and it's only £45!

M&S Trench coat blue

It's a shorter length, ideal if you want one suitable for office wear, especially if you are a commuter; the shorter length will be more comfortable to travel in and the website even goes on to say that it is creased resistant, which is a big bonus when you need to look professional throughout the entire day! Sizing is true to size.

The Everywear Mac

And finally if you would like to invest in this trend, but you really do not want to part with much cash - Primark had quite a variety to choose from and all are £25 or less.  This one was my favourite, I love the classic colour, there was no belt with it, so very much an open style of coat, and sizing was true to size. Not bad for £25. I'm sorry, but in typically Primark style it's not online, you'll need to head in store

My Top Five Slogan Tees

All You Need Is Love Tshirt

It’s a trend that started over eighteen months ago and it doesn’t seem to be disappearing any time soon! The slogan tee is one trend you can easily adopt into your wardrobe, you just need to decide on your message and be prepared to answer to people's inquisitive questions as to why you've opted for this or even maybe laugh at your choice of message - so you need to 'own it'!

My top tips on how to pick the right slogan:

  1. Unless you can see yourself wearing this over and over again, some slogans have a much shorter life span than you think – so if it’s seasonal, don’t spend too much money
  2. Think about colour – you want it to work with your existing wardrobe so if you don’t usually wear yellow and you have nothing already in your wardrobe that works with yellow, then avoid it – To make an outfit work even colour-clash styled outfits are ‘styled’ – You don’t want to be investing in other items to make the colour work for you
  3. Keep it fun
  4. Keep the look edgy by teaming up with a biker jacket, an open denim shirt or a stiff modern blazer – I would suggest to avoid the cardigan for this one!
  5. Don’t feel you need to stick with jeans; I quite often like the look with a midi skirt

I frequently use Pinterest as a source of style inspiration however I’m finding more and more I am using Instagram too; simply search by the item you want to see, so in this case I would perhaps use #slogantop and just see what comes up. These lovely ladies below I actually follow day-to-day on Instagram and they have kindly agreed to let me use the following to show you how they wear their slogan tops. Thanks Ladies!

You can opt for Susan's choice of GIRLHOOD - I think this is a fab one since we just celebrated 100 years of women getting the vote.
