It's Party Season - Sparkly Accessories

Let's get ready to sparkle!Thank you all for your lovely comments over the last couple of weeks. I am so pleased that you have enjoyed my 'It's Party Season' posts - I know that quite a few of you have now purchased your dresses or tops and if you didn't opt for sparkle in your choice, that's cool you can always add it in with some accessories.

Now accessories can cover a vast amount of items, so I will be covering off my 'Top 5' on party shoes and party bags.

Let's talk shoes...

Stiletto Heel Trim Pointed Court Shoes

Available in cobalt, ink, pewter, magenta and black

As a huge fan of Sex and the City I certainly could not bypass these shoes, I first saw them on a shopping trip with my friend Lisa and we both instantly said they are like Carrie's. I love the ink and the magenta - if you want simple sparkle and that feeling of being 'Carrie' you cannot go wrong with these!!

Dune London
Daenarys Gold
Was £95, Now £76

When I think of out-out shoes I tend to start with Dune, I just know they will have a lot of choice and they have not let me down. I've selected these because at this time of year you might get up and have a bit of a boogie and for me I would need high-heels that are strapped to my feet or I know I will be flinging them off!! (whilst I'm dancing!! )

Aren't these gorgeous!

Kettlewell Colours

Available in Black Sparkle, Multi Sparkle, Red Sparkle and Coral Red Print

Now not everyone wants to wear a heel - and the colourful brand Kettlewell Colours have got your back on this! Four fabulous loafers to offer you to jazz up any outfit for your night out.

Silver sequinned heeled ankle boots
Was £49.99, Now £39.99

My black sequinned boots which you can see on my Instagram page, I simply love - they have become a great asset to my wardrobe! The one thing I would say the heel can be a little high for a more casual evening out, so these from Zara with a kitten-heel I think would be fabulous.

Public Desire Harlee High Shine Rose Gold Heeled Ankle Boots

Gold and silver may not be everyone's cup of tea, and with jewellery heavily featured in rose gold, you can now get the boots to match! F A B U L O U S

Let's talk bags...

House of Fraser
Biba Foldover Zip Clutch

I have to kick start with this one, as I have this clutch bag and now that it's over a year old I cannot believe just how versatile this colour is. They call it multi, but up close it's pearlised blues, silvers, greens and purples and because it changes colour with the light it goes with pretty much everything!

I've been using it over the last couple of weeks and I've brought it with me to Belfast, as I just know it will work with whatever I decide to wear. I highly recommend.

House of Fraser

ISSA Round Clutch Bag

This is a lovely sophisticated looking clutch that also comes with a long strap, perfect for an elegant look. I love the contrasting finish, and it comes in gold or black.

I was in Accessorize yesterday and there is so much choice, that if you really don't where to head to, I would start there!

Tina Sequin Clip Frame Clutch Bag

I've love a clip frame clutch, I have one from Coast in black that I bought over 15 years ago and I still love it today as much as I did when I first got it - it's amazing just how much you can get in there, and what I love most is that it sits on your lap so easily as the material just works with your body much better than a hard case that can be prone to slipping.

This one looks so gorgeous

Anaya Diamante Clutch Bag
Was £59, Now £41.30

Sometimes you just want straightforward clear sparkle, you know that diamond look - I think this is a great option from Coast.

River Island

Pink glitter cutabout hinged clutch bag

River Island is a great place to head to if you want something more on trend and not too pricey! They have lots of rose gold options too, especially if you do opt for those ASOS rose gold boots! I really love this one, art deco inspired - who doesn't like like a bit of gold sparkle with their pink?! Love this.

It's party season - Sparkly tops for Out-Out!

Last week it was about dresses but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea. So I've been checking our sparkly tops that you can wear with trousers, skirts or jeans to get you in that party mood.

Now there are a vast array of colours in store, but for the most part I've stuck to traditional black, silver or gold for inspiration but by all means do play with colour as there is a lot of choice on the high street at the moment, making it all very exciting.

Mint Velvet
Black Linear Sequin Tee

Mint Velvet is not normally a brand I head to, but I've had some feedback from readers that you want to see more about their range on my posts, and so yours truly has checked this brand out to see what they can offer in a sparkly come t-shirt that has a relaxed yet party-feel vibe, and I think this black linear top ticks all the boxes.  True to size for fit and what you can't see, but I could feel, is that there is two layers to this top, the first being the sequins and the second a super soft (and I mean SUPER SOFT) t-shirt material underneath. Classic style and fit this is not too trendy so will last a number of years - I think the £69 is worth it!

Sequin Velvet Long Sleeve Top

I loved the dress last week, in fact the dress made front cover of this month's Hello Fashion magazine and whilst it didn't suit me, I think it's one of the best party dresses from the high street. They also do it in a top, if that's more your thing. It's also available in Navy, but sadly the Gold has sold out.

Metallic Spot Ruffle Top

I loved this on the hanger and thought this would be fabulous on, sadly I was unimpressed and I think the price-point of £36 is overstated. It's extremely flimsy to the point where I would suggest a silky vest should be worn underneath to make it more flattering to wear. Size is true to fit and the one positive is I really loved the sleeves, but this is 'trendy' and I just do not think it's worth the money in investing.

Metallic Frill Sleeve Top

Simple and easy-wear. This one ticks all the boxes if you want fuss free party wear that you can also quite easily get away with wearing during the day, this is it. Loved the sleeves, it's got a V-back but nothing too revealing and I think it's a great price, true to fit - Well done Warehouse!

This next one and the last one from Warehouse, promise!  (there was so much choice I found it really hard to scale it back!) I would highly recommend to not buy this one online but to go in store and try it all. It looks fabulous on the website, it looks fabulous on the hanger BUT when you put it on (and believe me it was the correct size) it left a gapping hole right in the middle of the front??! WTF - I just couldn't understand it, and I believe if you went down a size it would be bigger hole and if you went up a size then it would not create this lovely draping - I don't get it - Buy with caution.

Metallic Knot Front Top

Feedback last week on the dresses was that some of you are looking for warmth when you are heading out. Sparkly and embellished jumpers come in a multitude of budgets, and for this choice I have particularly gone high-end, why? Well if it's for a night out be it with jeans or a midi skirt you don't want the top looking everyday - you simply will not feel glam or special wearing it and then because of that you will add a lot of fussy jewellery to compensate and then your jumper will not longer be the statement piece.

Ted Baker brand offers a lot of choice; you can go with a lot of bling or they even offer tone on tone for that high-end quality look without the christmas tree effect. I think the choice below is a mid-point between the two, and again you will get more than one year's worth out of this - so with a blended cashmere feel and with gorgeous detailing this is a fabulous choice - I had to go up one size for a good fit.

Now my love of Biba and all their sparkle I had to head there and after trying on so many tops, I saved Biba to last (hoping I may be purchasing!!). From the front I LOVED IT and I would have bought it if it wasn't for two key reasons: Firstly the sleeves needed to be a either a tad shorter or 3/4 length - just above the elbow is not my style. But the biggest reason was the (very stupid) thick velvet tie you had to do at the neckline around the back, the design of it simply doesn't match the top and once tied it made me feel that my hair would need to be down as I think it looked messy (notice below how it's soooo perfect on the model :(  ) The sizing was true to fit and the quality and feel was lovely.

Coming up next week on the blog - sparkly accessories, by which point I think you'll be done with all the sparkle and ready to kick back and enjoy the festive season!

In between my posts you can keep up with all my daily outfit of the day posts over on Instagram - and you never know you might find the odd quote inspirational too! You don't have to join Instagram, you can simply click here to view.

It's party season - Dress to sparkle

I can't believe it's that time of year when we need to ramp up the sparkle! It's amazing how just a few sequins or a bit of lace can really get you in the party mood. I've been out looking at party frocks because honestly I really wouldn't leave this sort of thing to the last minute - or you may end up not really liking your outfit or paying over the top to get 'something' sorted.

If you're not into dresses, don't panic, I plan to do party tops next - so there will be something for everyone. Believe me you are going to see more sparkle and lace on this blog over the next few posts that I will be in competition with your Christmas tree!

Now what you want to make sure of is that you are wearing the dress and the dress is not wearing you! Here are a few tips to think about when trying them on:

Tip 1
Sparkle, lace, sequins - this is not your everyday wear. So you need to make more time to try on lots of dresses so that you can explore different styles to see what you like.

Tip 2
Don't wear jeans when you are out shopping for this kind of dress - have some thick black tights on and perhaps take your evening shoes with you so that you can get a true feel for the outfit

Tip 3
For this type of shopping, take a friend. You don't want to play safe and believe me a good friend will tell you the truth. One of the dresses I tried on below I thought was perfect, but it turns out... it's not! Good friends will give good advice.

Tip 4
You need to decide on your budget BEFORE you go shopping - there is no midway point - these kind of dresses are either around the £60 price-point and then for the most part jump to £200+ - can you really afford to spend that?

Tip 5
Before you head out shopping, dig through your wardrobe and find all your evening shoes, bags, jewellery, wraps, jackets etc - you don't want to be buying more of the same old, if you are only going to use them a few times - it's nice to have a little vintage thrown in with new.

Karen Millen
Embroidered Mini Dress

Interestingly this was not a mini dress on me or the model on the website. This is very much a pencil style skirt that finishes above the knee. The pattern is gorgeous and I would say that the fit is true to size. This dress is stunning and it would be your statement piece as you definitely do not want to over-acessorise this dress!

The one negative, I found the pattern around my thigh area not that appealing, I think I would be too self-conscious throughout the night whilst wearing it - a shame that the designers didn't think about this for pear or hour-glass for which this dress has been designed for.

Ted Baker
Lace peplum sleeve dress

I loved this dress, the lace detailing was gorgeous and the fit it true to size. The skirt is a-line and it has pockets!! Love this feature. The fabric was fairly stiff and the dress sat well. The price-point is a tad steep but it is Ted Baker and this is a dress you can wear throughout the year and not just for tinsel season!

I highly recommend trying this one one if it suits your budget.

Amanda Lace Dress

Before I even tried this dress on I knew it was going to be stunning, the lace detailing is fabulous. Again the price-point is a little steep but I already own a black lace dress from this brand and I wear it A LOT - so this would be a great investment piece.

The dress below was a size smaller than my normal size, but based on that I would say it was true to fit. The fabric is not as soft as the Ted Baker above, and if I'm truly honest I would prefer that one to this.

Velvet Sequin High Neck Dress

This is the one I wanted to buy... this is definitely a PARTY dress - loved the sparkle, loved the sequins, but sadly the really high neckline did not suit my bust line, you need to be more petite in that region for this dress to work.

I'm not sure why they call this velvet, it may be that underneath but every minute part if this dress is covered in sequins. I only saw it in black in store, but online they have it in navy and gold, but it looks like the gold is selling fast.

Fabulous party dress, great price-point and again sizing is true to fit.

Ted Baker
Embellished collar velvet dress

If you want to be more subtle with the bling, then this is the dress. I've never tried anything like this one before, as it's typically not my style - I loved it. I think it's a great look. For me personally the skirt didn't work with my body shape - you need to be either straight or an inverted-triangle as there is minimal waistline to this design, and whilst I normally like pockets this just added bulk.

I didn't see one, but if this came in a top - I would be buying! I highly recommend trying this one on, I think you'll be surprised just how much you'll like it if the design of the dress works with your body shape.

NTU Lace Glitter Velvet Dress

Now one of my forthcoming events is to an Art Deco restaurant and this place is all the glitz and glam! So I want to sparkle and I want the dress to look good from the waist up as I will be dining for the most part, so it's important to me that it looks extra fabulous whilst I sit.

This dress comes in two lengths, and I have ordered both online (whilst I was shopping!!) the dress below is too small and whilst I waited to see if they had a bigger size (which they didn't) I decided this is the one!

The glittery lace design and the velvet tube-like dress looks fabulous and thankfully the hour-glass fit works with my curves and not against it! Just waiting for them to arrive....
