Six of the Best - Summer Dresses

Now that the summer is here, there is nothing more versatile than the summer dress; wear it shopping, lunching, in the park or for a walk with the dog.  It's a great way to keep cool on hot sticky days and they are also great to use as cover-ups on beaches, especially if your going for a spot of lunch.

Opt for a range of different size bags, types of shoes and jewellery - all in similar colours; this will give you lots of options to mix and match, so that you never have the same look twice.  Although if you find a look that rocks, then make sure you use that one again!

Summer naturally brings colour, so have lots of fun.  If you know your undertones of either warm or cool try then aim to have this as your foundation colour to enhance your natural colourings.

If you do choose a dress in multi-colour, then pick a few colours and try to get small cardies to wear with them, for those summer evenings at BBQ's or alfresco dining - again this gives you lots of options to play with.

Here are six of the best I've found for you…

5 mins for...

Well this last month has been very busy for me with a house move; boxing everything up and then literally unpacking it all again. Being without WIFI for a month was testing to say the least!  But hey the sunshine is here ladies so let's enjoy it!

This blogpost is a chance for you to take a break from your busy schedule and grab yourself a drink and peruse the various articles below that I've been having a read of over the last month.  If there is anything you love, let me know by leaving a comment.  Enjoy x

Would you allow your fella to dress you? Well Summer Bellessa (yes that's her name!) let her husband dress her for a whole week, with some surprising results.  I personally love the stripy top, pink skirt combo - one I need to note for myself.  Have read of it here.

So would you like to know the most flattering hairstyles for your age? 20's, 30's, 40's & 50's.  This article by the Telegraph goes into some detail for the first three, however once you get to your 50's it seems you only deserve a couple of paragraphs!  I know I've hit forty this year, but after reading this, I'm sticking to 39 - have a look for yourself here.

Need a recipe or two?  I'm frequently asked for more recipes for smoothies and healthy living. One of the places I go to for inspiration is GOOP.  They have lots that you can take a look at, and if your not not keen on an ingredient then just swap it for something you love.  Take a look for yourself, but be careful you might lose a few hours here

Shoes: Pleasure and Pain at the V&A - I've not yet been but this is very much on my to do list!  This exhibition looks at extreme footwear from around the world and boosts to have 200 pairs!  (Bet we all wish we had that many.)  It's already started and tickets are £12.  Just need to find a date before the 31st January 2016, which I'm sure you can.  Read more about it here.

I'm going to end with a blog I wrote in the summer of 2012, all about summer essentials.  What you should keep in your handbag, the boot of your car and in the kitchen!  The only thing I would like to add to this list is a bottle of Prosecco ;) Have a read of it here, and I hope you all have a fabulous weekend in the sunshine ladies!

You can always keep up to date with Loved by Lizzi in more ways than just my blog, check out what I have to say in less than 140 characters here.  Or if you love your life in pictures then check me out here.  And if you love snooping at what your friends and family are up to, you can also check me out there too!

What I Wore - My week on Instagram

Firstly a big thank you to all my readers - I've been getting some lovely feedback on my latest posts and I really do appreciate all your comments!

It's been a tough few weeks coping without WIFI, with an imminent house move I'm hoping this will get sorted very soon - so I can be back up and running at full speed on Social and of course my blog!

Well you've asked me and I'm listening - it seems ladies you are keen to see more of what I wear each day.  I do post my OOTD (outfits of the day) and Today I'm Wearing photos on Instagram, but for those of you not following, here's an insight into my week of What I Wore.

So my week started with Saturday night.  I went out for dinner and I wanted to be stylish yet simple, so I opted for my new black culottes from Biba.  I teamed them up with a black tee and black stilettos - I relaxed the look by added my denim jacket.  Fonzo my Bichonpoo sadly couldn't join me on my night out, I wish he could as he makes a fabulous accessory! ;)

The next morning was very sunny, and I needed to be all dressed up for a Christening - it seemed quite strange to be so smart on a Sunday.  As the sun was shining I went for my orange lace dress from Wallis (last summer) and accessorised this with nude shoes and jacket along with a gold clutch.  To finish the look I went with my a Ray Ban aviators in brown tint instead of my usual dark Chanel's.

This week I wrote about top tips on shopping for jumpsuits; if you missed this post you can have a catch up here.  So Thursday I wore my black jumpsuit from Phase Eight (current season) - I'm loving this one so much, I'm tempted to wear it daily!  The gold belt keeps the look classic, and I wore black stilettos and a woven Chanel style jacket in cream & black.

And finally, I end the week with a 'Dress Down Friday' look for work - wearing my new 70's denim skirt that I've recently purchased from Limited Collection at M&S.  Denim skirts are probably my favourite denim garments but I've never worn one this long, and I'm really liking it. I wore it with an old Zara top and my gold cardi from Mango (both 2-3 years old now) and finished this off with this season's platform tan sandals from New Look.

For the love of jumpsuits!

I love a jumpsuit - I think it's because it plays homage to my childhood days of dreaming of being Kelly Garrett from Charlie's Angels; I'm still so in love with Jaclyn Smith I'm forever checking out her twitter account @realjaclynsmith as she tweets photos every Thursday for #TBT of her Kelly days!!

In fact last Thursday night as I was driving to St Albans to meet the girls for dinner, I had my jumpsuit on and I was driving a low sporty coupe -  All I needed was the telephone (with cord, in beige) in my centre console talking to Bosley and that just would have made my night!! ;)

Back to the jumpsuits - I currently own two and every time I wear them I receive lots and lots of compliments. Jumpsuits are so easy to wear but it's really key to get them in the right material, shape and style to suit YOU.

To get to the ones I own, I think I've tried on about 30!  So here's my tips as to what to look for when trying them on:

  • If your curvy you need the material to skim your body line - avoid wearing starchy straight materials like heavy cotton as this will not look great.  Both of mine are made from jersey.
  • It needs to fit you perfectly; so avoid them if they hang to long between your legs, too tight across the bottom.   Or if your like me, an hour-glass shape, then you need to opt for ones that have a belt or tie.
  • If your concerned about lumps and bumps and you want to hide them; opt for patterned jumpsuits and avoid pockets where they might enhance your less likeable features
  • If your body shape is straight and your bust-line is not too heavy then opt for a utility style with a button down front - these usually come in cotton or denim
  • Heading out with the girls or for dinner?  Wear heels - this gives the look an evening feel
  • Shopping, on the go or simply walking the dog - then I recommend flip flops or flat sandals
  • Have fun shopping for them, try loads on and don't get hung up on the fit, as soon as you have the right one on, you'll know!
  • And if you need to fly anywhere and you need to arrive in style, this is the ideal time to wear one!

Another fan of the jumpsuit is Victoria Beckham, here's one of her recent tweets from her trip to Singapore:

Chantelle Lingerie - It's time to get Sporty!

When I visited Chantelle Lingerie, I got the chance to try on their recently launched Sports Bra - and I simply loved it!  It was a great firm fit and I felt that I would be able to run, jump or skip and know that my breasts would be protected from any tissue damage.  And so I treated myself to this sports bra and I opted for one in the colour grey.

I received it a couple of weeks and I love it!  The cross section at the back ensure a firm support; and I now feel I could do anything whilst wearing this sports bra, which is great as without the support I find some activities can be quite painful and in the past I've worn both a sports bra and a sports top with bra support!!  Not much fun.

Why is it important to wear a top quality sports bra?

  • Most obvious - to avoid pain!
  • To be comfortable
  • Enhance your sports performance
  • When you walk you breasts move up and down & side to side by as much as 4cm.  When you run or exercise this can increased to 15-21 cm
  • Small breasts should be protected just as much as larger breast sizes
  • Protect yourself from tissue damage - Think about it... imagine an elastic band with a bag of sugar hanging at the end, and then imagine it swaying from side to side - what will happen to the elastic band over time?  It will become loose and lose it's elasticity  which cannot be reverted unless you have surgery - take care and look after your breast tissue.

So make sure you try before you buy!  Have a think about how many you will need, especially as your bra needs to rest for a day to help the fabrics and materials recover. And it's important for replace them regularly, Chantelle recommend every 6-12 months.

You can purchase Chantelle lingerie from Independents across the country - just check their website for a list.

You can also buy from:

  • Selfridges
  • Harrods
  • John Lewis
  • House of Fraser
  • Fenwicks
