5 minutes for...

Post updated 5th January 2018 to remove all links as they were out of date.

Here we are, it's nearly New Year and I cannot believe another year has gone by!

I'd like to say a big thank you to all my readers for following Loved by Lizzi throughout 2014.

And I am wishing you all a safe, happy and healthy 2015!

Habib Sadeghi writes this interesting article "Selfish Selflessness" for GOOP about how not putting yourself first can affect your health. Women particularly are often placing their own needs last on the list or even not getting around to them at all.  It's a great read and with my recent adoption of mindfulness meditation, I can really understand why and how this can be true.  Take a look for yourself here.

The Telegraph Fashion section has a great write-up all about "Smart work wear ideas" - I particularly like the Grace top from Reiss and the Cashmere wrap cardigan by Windsor London. 20 options across different budgets, take a peep here.

Have you booked your tickets yet?  London Fashion Weekend is on from 26th February to 1st March 2015 at Somerset House.  There's a chance to see two catwalk shows, pop-ups of Designer shopping and talks from leading industry experts.  If you fancy it, you can book tickets here.

This month saw the collaboration of Victoria, Victoria Beckham with Nails inc - two great on trend colours of Juno Red and Bamboo White.  Whilst I'm loving the trend of super-white nails, it really wouldn't work with my skin tone.  I've purchased my Juno Red direct from Selfridges, and it came in all this lovely gorgeous packaging, perfect as a gift… a gift for me! (I'm getting into this "Selfish Selflessness" ;) ) Check it out here.

Recipe: Smoothie fantastic!

There are some mornings when you just need a big kick to get you into action, and I'm finding that my smoothies packed with really healthy stuff is a great way to start my day.  Now I couldn't do it every morning, but a couple of times a week this type of breakfast is just what I need.

I'm always surprised too at just how filling they can be, this will definitely keep you going for a good 4-5 hours!

  • Handful of spring greens
  • 1/2 an avocado
  • 1 banana
  • Handful of pecan nuts
  • 2 x teaspoons of flaxseeds
  • Approx. 10-12 frozen blueberries
  • Approx. 100ml of orange juice (Be careful here! I like my smoothies thick - if you prefer to have them more fluid then I would add some water, too much orange juice can make this very sweet and increases the amount of sugar intake)

Enjoy x

Product Review: Safa Skincare - Organic and Halaal approved

It's always very exciting when you get the opportunity to try something that is not yet launched.  With my recent focus on nutrition to balance my lifestyle and wellbeing, I never thought beauty products may be something to consider too.

Safa skincare contacted me to ask if I would review their products, so they sent me free of charge samples of their cleansing milk and facial toner.  Safa Skincare is a new and exciting alternative skincare brand that focuses on two key messages: their products come with the approval of being Organic and Halaal.  And with my "Made in Britain" hat on, I was really pleased to see that these products are made in Manchester!

Over the last couple of months to help control my IBS symptoms, I have had to make sure that the food I eat are gluten and wheat free - I was really surprised when I was reading the back of the bottles that both these products are Gluten and Wheat free products, go figure?! Never did I think I should consider this within my skincare regime.

Cleansing Milk

Safa Cleansing Milk has been specially formulated with organic rosehip oil, sweet almond and calendula extract. I found the milk to be of good consistency, not too runny and you can apply quite easily with your fingers and then remove using a cotton pad.  The smell to me is simply herbal.  I found the product to be refreshing and calming on my face, and very easy to remove before applying the Safa Organic Facial Toner.

Facial Toner

Now I'm not normally a fan of facial toner, I think it's a waist of time, however I did give it a go and found it cooling on the skin.  Safa Organic Facial Toner has been formulated using cucumber, aloe and green tea extracts - designed to lift away the remaining traces of dirt and make-up.  For this product I didn't really think there was a smell at all, it just gave you a feeling of your skin being refreshed.  I quite like it.

Price for both products is £5.99!  Great value and affordable, which is want we want to hear at this time of year! This blog post is a preview as the products are not currently available to purchase, I'll make sure I update you when I know they are.

The packaging is green and white, and the bottles are of a simple design, reinforcing the product to be simple and natural.  Vegan lovers will also be happy in the knowledge that this product is suitable for them too.

You'll see by the image below they plan to offer other products in their range, click here to view more about these.

Beat the Winter Blues in a Warm and Stylish Coat

Today's post comes from guest blogger, Catherine Bruce from Style & Coach

Hundreds of coats are out there in the shops right now and due to a late winter, you should be able to bag a bargain, even after the manic ‘Black Weekend’ buying spree. There are styles, prices and fabrics to suit every shape, age and budget but before grabbing a bargain, answer a few questions:

  • Is it really a ‘bargain’ if the style and colour don’t suit you? It could end up being moth fodder if you don’t feel really good in it. Make sure you know the colours and styles that flatter you before you buy.
  • Is it an investment piece?  If you’re thinking of spending in excess of £150, you don’t want a catwalk style that will quickly lose its shelf–life. Go for a classic number like the Reiss Sharply tailored coat shown below.
  • When will you wear the coat? For a public transport commute, you need warmth with good arm and leg coverage (but not so long you might trip up the stairs in it) in a practical colour that won’t live at the dry cleaners. If you fancy a light colour, factor in the cost of frequent dry cleaning.
  • Do you need it for getting in and out of the car? If so, consider a shorter length.
  • Do you want it for every day wear with jeans for walking the dog/ outdoor life and/or watching the kids from the sidelines of the football pitch? Grab a warm quilted and hooded knee length or longer number, with a belt for added wind protection.
  • Is it formal/ occasional wear you’re after? Go for something that packs a punch and makes you look fab on those glam nights out. A bit of cashmere or fake fur will up the stakes.
  • Are you building a ‘Capsule Wardrobe’ ? Go for an everyday quilted coat, a formal coat and a quality tailored jacket for essential  outdoor wear items.

My pick for this season:

Reiss Emile Sharply Tailored Coat in Blue Passion
Also available in Lilac and Burgundy

ASOS - Vero Moda Funnel Neck Coat

Jigsaw Boucle Knit Coat in Grey

Fur trim Quilted Coat

Mango Funnel Neck Coat and Bargain of the month 40% off at John Lewis- now £34.99 until 17th December 2014.

Mango at John Lewis

Get your Christmas stocking filled with Smythson’s this year!

It’s that time of year again when you need to start thinking about what it is you want for Christmas!

Loved by Lizzi is a huge fan of the Smythson’s brand and on a recent trip to Bicester Village designer outlet, I stopped in to see what they had in store.  After chatting with the sales girls who recommended the Mara collection as it has popular items like travel & passport wallets, it made me think do we give enough thought to how we look whilst we travel to our destinations, as we give A LOT of thought and planning to how we want to look once we get there!

The Mara Collection offers the widest selection of accessories and is made of calf leather with a glossy crocodile print, the Autumn Winter colour palette includes a scrummy berry and a stylish charcoal.

So I'm hoping that this year my Christmas stocking will be filled with lots of goodies from the Mara Collection, here's a few that I'm loving!!

The Mara Collection

  • Top left:  iPhone 5 Cover - £95
  • Top right:  Passport cover with slide - £140
  • Bottom left: Travel Clutch - £445
  • Bottom right: Large jewellery roll with slide - £325

I'd love for you to leave a comment telling me which Smythson's product you would love to receive in your Christmas stocking this year!  Just click on the comments link below.  (For e-mail subscribers click here to view)

Oh what a night! - The British Fashion Awards 2014

So last night a lot of dreams came true for me!  I got to see on stage some of the most iconic names in the fashion world; Anna Wintour, Victoria Beckham and Suzy Menkes to name a few.

Where was I?  Only The British Fashion Awards for 2014 (BFA)!!

A couple of months ago, I got an e-mail about tickets for concerts etc, and I spotted on there that they were selling tickets to the BFA - my initial reaction was it can't be the real thing, this must be a mock one for the public, like they do for London Fashion Week with London Fashion Weekend.

After a lot of googling, it seemed to be the real deal!  So I got in touch with my fabulous friend Emma and within a few minutes, we had two Silver package tickets booked for the event!.  The awards were being held at the London Coliseum and to be hosted by the wonderful Jack Whitehall!  It transpires that this was the first year they were letting the public in - and I'm so pleased they did, as it was FABUUUUULOUSSSS.

So yesterday morning Emma and I set off for London, bags and long black gowns in tow.  After a long Italian lunch and a quick visit to the hairdressers we got ourselves ready and headed in a black cab to the event.

Our tickets said we could enter at 6:30pm, it turns our we were not supposed to go in until after 7pm - but thankfully we were there early as we got to see Jack Whitehall and have our photos taken with him!

In just a couple of hours and after 17 awards given, I don't think I have ever seen so many celebrities and fashion people in one place!  Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Victoria & David Beckham, Laura Bailey, Kylie Minogue, Anna Wintour, Suzy Menkes, John Galliano, Cara & Poppy Delevingne, Lewis Hamilton, Rita Ora, Rihanna, Anya Hindmarch, Sarah Burton, Emma Watson, Harry Styles and so many more!

There was also  Kendall Jenner, Lilly Allen, Nicole Scherzinger and Ellie Goulding too, but we didn't spot them!

Here are some pics of the night, you'll see that we had really good seats but with limitations of the iPhone not all photos were great, but it should give you a flavour of what our evening was like!

And finally - what were WE wearing!  Emma's long black gown was by Ariella London and I'm wearing a 70's vintage style black gown by Ossie Clark London.
